Sew Yup’ik Qaspeq Workshop

Ever wanted to create your very own custom qaspeq? Now is your opportunity!
Nikki Corbett (Sew Yup’ik) was born and raised in Bethel, Alaska and has been sewing qaspeq since she was around 10 years old. She started Sew Yup’ik in 2015 and has been teaching students how to craft their own traditional and modern qaspeq.
Friday, February 24, 6:30-8:30 pm
Saturday, February 25, 9am-5pm (working lunch)
$100 adults
$85 Age 11-17
*Materials not included; see list below. Recommended for people with some sewing experience*
Students need to bring:
Sewing machine (**contact HCOA if you do not have a machine, extras available)
Fabric cutting scissors
Measuring tape
Rotary cutter & mat if desired
3-4 yards cotton material
scrap knit material (if you want cuffs)
2 packages of extra wide double fold bias tape or single fold bias tape
2 packages of ric-rac, piping, or single fold bias tape (for trim)
Optional:
Iron & ironing board
Qaspeq if you already have one to use for a pattern
