Through these paintings, I aim to capture the serene nostalgia that emanates from my collected images – candid moments, untouched by time or editing, that hold a sincerity often lost in today’s curated world. These images come from various sources: 8mm home movies, old magazine articles,my own family photo albums, and personal snapshots. There was something about these glimpses into still moments of peace, contemplation, or melancholy that drew me to them. Using techniques like thin, flat paint passages contrasted with highly rendered areas, and layering of additional elements, helps convey emotion in my work. I’m strongly inspired by the styles of artists like Mary Cassatt and Andrew Wyeth, as well as the imagery and storytelling of European medieval paintings.

My roots run deep in Alaska’s soil, and my family’s stories are woven into its fabric. The people I love, the land that nurtured me – they’re what inspire me. Alaska isn’t just a place, it is part of who I am.

Artist’s Bio

I’m an oil painter currently based in Kenai, Alaska. In my early 20s, I initially pursued a career in massage therapy, ignoring my calling to become an artist. Although living and studying in the urban landscape of San Francisco was a foreign experience, it proved highly inspiring for my work. The human connections I made through massage therapy reinforced my love for humanity, which only grew stronger when I became a mother, leading me to portraiture.
