Mud and Mocktails: Mugs

step one: make your mug

Join Homer artist Xochiyollotl in the HCOA studio and start your Valentines week by learning how to create your own one of a kind hand built ceramic mug for yourself or someone you love. Participants will use templates to cut slabs that they will use to build their mugs before decorating them with stroke and coat underglazes, all while enjoying seasonal mocktails and light bites.

If there is time, participants will also have the opportunity to make a saucer or coffee pour-over to accompany their new mug.

Mud and Mocktails is a workshop series created to be a fun way to explore ceramic hand building by yourself or as a night out with friends. They are entry level workshops that cover the basics of working with clay and provide a general knowledge of hand building.

Tasty drinks, fun crafts, and good company. What could be better?!

Xochiyollotl has been making pottery for 12 years. She received an MFA from UAF in 2023 before moving to Homer and joining the HCOA team as the communications and development coordinator. She enjoys giving back to her new community through hand building workshops that are designed for people who are new to ceramics. She is proud of the Mud and Mocktails series that provides a safe, fun, and sober environment for all ages to engage with clay.
