Black Tie Gala Fundraiser

Presented by Homer Council on the Arts and the Norman Lowell Gallery

This formal event includes a catered reception by Executive Chef Michael Ann Ferguson followed by a performance of Shostakovich’s
autobiographical Quartet No. 8 by Homer’s Glacier Quartet and a Vocal Showcase featuring Jim Anderson, Britny Bradshaw, and David Camp accompanied by pianist Karen Strid

Friday, May 17th at the Norman Lowell Gallery 

Reception begins at 6 pm with performances beginning at 7 pm

The Norman Lowell Art Gallery Foundation preserves the gallery and homestead properties of Norman and Libby Lowell. Homesteaders in Alaska in 1956, Norman and Libby built a home and raised their family on this property.

Norman traveled the Alaskan wilderness extensively, sketching and painting what he saw. His life collection of paintings capture the spirit and beauty of this life in the north. He expressed his love of Alaska in paintings until he went blind. Upon retiring, he placed his gallery and remaining collections into a nonprofit organization. His hope is that all his fellow Alaskans and all people who come to Alaska to visit may find enjoyment and encouragement from his impressionistic paintings of the Great Land.

Lying 10 miles north of Homer, and 5 miles south of Anchor Point, the Norman Lowell Gallery is a one-of-a-kind experience tucked away off the main road. Alaskans have the opportunity to preserve this celebration of our land and our life through supporting the foundation and spreading awareness to travelers who visit our state.

The Norman Lowell Gallery is open to the public Monday – Saturday 9am-5pm from May 1 – September 15 with free admission. The Norman Lowell Foundation’s commitment to providing free access to their collection of works parallels HCOA’s mission to provide opportunities for all people in our community to experience and participate in the arts.

Proceeds from the Black Tie Gala will benefit both HCOA and the Norman Lowell Gallery.
