COPPER RIVER REDS ON THE RUN
CALL FOR ARTIST SUBMISSIONS
Going into its third year, Copper River Reds on the Run has produced fourteen one of a kind salmon art pieces, decorated storefronts in Cordova throughout the busy tourist season and has generated over $8,000 that has been donated to scholarship programs to benefit youth throughout the Copper River watershed.
This year, we are excited to expand the program to feature the full Copper River salmon run - King, Sockeye and Coho salmon in both male and female forms. A total of six molds will be distributed this year - two King, two Sockeye and two Coho.
SELECTION PROCESS: A panel of judges will choose six artists based on the applications and sketches we receive. Designs will be chosen based on artistic merit and creativity - think about what materials you will use to decorate your salmon and which mold your design will work best on (a 23" Sockeye and a 44" Chinook are very different).
Your art will be displayed indoors for several months and should be durable. We provide a mount, but you are encouraged to be creative, reinforce it or alter as you see fit. Develop your idea and create a sketch of your design using the sample forms in this packet and submit it along with your application. Artists may submit up to three separate entries.

Artist Opportunity for Wasilla High School
In accordance with Alaska State Law, the Mat-Su Borough School District, working with the Municipality of Anchorage, is requesting concept proposals for artwork to be commissioned for the interior of Wasilla High School. The committee is requesting concept or thumbnail proposals from artists for the area outlined below. The total budget for all projects is $100,000.
The Art Selection Jury has identified, the interior commons area of the school. There is already a large image of a Warrior Chief above the doors to the gym that cannot be relocated, so the artwork must co-exist with this existing artwork. Light reflection from surrounding windows will compliment an introduction of movement. The committee would like to see the colors of red, white and grey incorporated. A more sophisticated look for the space was asked for by the committee, they envision something suspended from the ceiling (at least 18" for code purposes) that enhance the entry to the school.
Proposals from artists are due on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 4:00 pm, and should include a concept proposal, resume, a CD with ten images and an image identification sheet. Finalists will be selected based on the quality, skills and appropriateness of the artists' concepts.
There is a scheduled artist's visit to the site on Tuesday, August 24, at 3:30 pm. If artists want to visit the school at any point, they are welcome to do so. Please just sign it at the front desk and look at the location mentioned above.
